Youth Climbing Programs

Weekly Youth Climbing Programs

N3C’s youth climbing programs give kids an opportunity to improve their climbing by working with skilled instructors each week. Through a variety of age-appropriate games, drills, and activities, the climbers will learn climbing and rope-working skills as well as cooperation, teamwork, and critical thinking.

Youth Programs Outside

(Rock Stars and Climbing Club Summer Session)

Summer Session Info

Throughout the summer, students in grades 3-12 will climb outside at various locations around the White Mountains of NH. Each day will include climbing, instruction, and the continued development of skills learned in other N3C youth programs. This program will be run as a drop-off program at N3C or Echo Crag (depending on the climbing location), where instructors will provide instruction and supervision during the program.

This program is available to students who have participated in an N3C youth program in the past 2 years, including Rock Stars Rec., Rock Stars Team, Climbing Club (previously known as Top Knots), a summer camp, or a 6-week winter program/homeschool program at N3C.

Why Climb Outdoors?

Outdoor climbing is so much fun! With the right skills, outdoor climbing can be a lifelong pursuit, just like indoor climbing. It provides all the same exercise, teamwork, and problem-solving benefits of climbing at N3C, but with the added bonus of being able to experience nature and the White Mountains in a new way!

Student Expectations

Students should be able to exhibit patience while instructors put up ropes and climbers take turns climbing and belaying. Please see the list below for other expectations of students throughout the day. If your child is unable to meet these expectations without parental supervision, please consider scheduling a privately guided day.

  • Can hike at a moderate pace in varied terrain with a backpack
  • Able to be appropriately prepared for the day and self-manage their personal needs. (Includes listening to their body to take care of eating, drinking, and bathroom breaks)
  • Able to self-regulate behavior during downtime (non-climbing time)

Any children not appropriately prepared for the day upon arrival to the program (i.e. not wearing hiking footwear) will not be able to participate and will be asked to leave.
