After a long session in the great outdoors my skin is typically torn, fragmented, dry, and bloody. Even pushing through moderate terrain indoors can wreak-havoc on the fingers, palms and back of the hands. It’s important to know how to care for yourself so you can get back to what really matters, like climbing again.
Over the years I’ve used a variety of hand salves geared towards repairing damaged hands because of rock-climbing. JoshuaTree, Climb-On, Badger Balm, to name a few, all of which are great; however, in the past few years, a new company has emerged and is taking the scene by storm.
ClimbSkin Spain was developed with the help of Chris Sharma and other top circuit climbers. It’s revolutionized the climbers salve industry and is my only “go-to” hand salve these days. It has its spot firmly planted in the pack next to the rack, draws, and rope; yes, it’s that important!
After a hard session I wash my hands and thoroughly massage the lotion into the skin on all sides, and within 24 hours I can literally see the skin repairing itself. And while ClimbSkin isn’t the cheapest salve on the market, it’s certainly the best. You know what the saying is, “Poor man pays twice,” so why not splurge and take good care of your body (that’s rhetorical, if you’re a climber you know it’s important to take good care of your body).
Another rad aspect of this product is that you can use it on your feet after jamming them into cracks and small aggressive climbing shoes after prolonged sessions. It relieves the pain of the day and repairs blisters, cuts and scrapes as well as any medical ointment. It’s simply that good!
My favorite part of this product is that it doesn’t leave a balmy/oily residue on the skin after use. The skin seems to soak it up immediately leaving your hands feeling soothed. How many other skin care products in the industry can boast such a thing? The answer is there’s only one, and it’s ClimbSkin Spain.
